The answer is yes, it comes from the Kumlum Mts. in Hetian provence China. The pure white is the original "Stone Of Heaven" Cherished by the Chinese for millennia.

It is nephrite jade. in chinese "he tian" means "river field" so these jade are from the river is expected to be smoother texture.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I'm quite familiar with He tian nephrite. I was just wondering if there is jadeite to be found in that area of xin jiang along side the nephrite, of if the area is naturally devoid of the material.

The area is the source for "The Stone Of Heaven" which as you know is white nephrite . As far as I know there is no Jadeite in the area.

I own a white-green mountain carving of Qinghai Jade. I originally thought it was Jadeite because of the glossy-tone. Subsequently found out it was mountain nephrite from the Qinghai area. It is 20cm wide and 21cm high at highest point (not including five inch stand). /the carving is quite detailed
in low relief depticing scholars and children fishing and enjoying the mountains, rivers and the environment away from the busy city areas. I am 75 years old and its time to sell does anyone have any insight of the marketability of Qinghai Jade, the Jade that was used on the 2008 Olympic Medals
that because of its high silicone content has the glassy-finish that gives it the Jadeite look.
