The half-a-million Yuan Renminbi babies - 2005 jade auction prices
During my recent visit to China I have picked up the 2006 Chinese Arts Auction Record Publication (140p ISBN 7-5356-2429-4/ 2006 – www.arts-press.com) summarizing the prices asked and achieved during 2005 auctions sales of jades mostly in Mainland China.
I have arbitrarily selected those jades having achieved an auction price of more than 500.000RMB or about $40,000 and present you below the reproduced photographs together with their size and dating for your enjoyment. Most of the auctions took place in Mainland China except for the objects marked so. As of the writing of this contribution, the appreciating 100 Yuan RMB have now a value of $12.78.
The top price achieved was a whopping 17.935.000 RMB or $1,404,000 for an 18 tablet book with gold letters inscribed on white jade in New York followed by 9.624.000RMB or $753,000 for a 9 cm square imperial Qing Dynasty seal in white jade in an auction in Hong Kong. The third place was taken, with 8.800.000RMB, by the auction price of a natural shaped white jade boulder of 97 x 58 x 50cm from Khotan resembling a duck head.
